Holiday atmosphere at Yppenplatz

Today my dear friend Astrid Schwarz from Vienna with Locals took over the blog. She is a true Vienna expert and has so many insider tips for you. Today you go on tour over the Yppenplatz.

When were you last at Yppenplatz? Especially since it is quite close to the Appartements Ferchergasse. I was there last week and wondered how fast the scenery of the evening has changed in the last two years!

On this evening also the open-air Volxkino had its stop on the Yppenplatz. This was a great experience, which gave the whole an additional boost of urbanism. The seats in the cinema, as well as in the restaurants and bars were occupied to the last place. With t-shirt and flip-flops or shirt and suit.

Werlcome to Yppenplatz

We started our little "tour" through the truly hip neighborhood in the wine bar Truksitz, the gray cheese in fig mustard dressing was more than delicious, 2 kinds of bread were also served. And if I had not had meetings the next day, I would surely have tasted myself through the fine wines.

After the wine bar, my Albanian friend from Ottakring showed me some more insider places, and I felt like I was on vacation. So beautiful, so relaxing.

Right in the middle of the square, green and beautifully grown ariund, there is a basketball court, a table tennis table and a spacious playground. There is something for everyone and the visitor frequency was also high.

The diversity here is more than cosmopolitan and, as I said, a bit of a holiday mood in the middle of one's own city. Just great.

Our next "stop" was at Cafe FRIDA. We could still sit outside, a menu with delicious temptations, in an extremely appealing ambience. Really come here. It is open Monday to Sunday 9 am till midnight. What you try then, of course, is up to you, but vegan sweet potato charcoal with babies' spinach or a fig tart with mozzarella in savoy cabbage make it a hard decision.

Beautiful view and insights

If you want to get an view of the busy Yppenplatz from above, then go to the "WIRR" directly at the corner Brunnengasse / Yppenplatz. Quite obviously, for the places at the rooftop terrace there is a great demand, but you can still get a place or come a little earlier, if it is not quite so lively.

Would you like to see more of Ottakring, but similar to me with an insider? Then have a look at Here you can book your own city-host and discover places in Vienna, which you rather not find in the Vienna guide. Overall, we have more than 50 different theme tours in 15 languages.

I wish you a great summer and I am happy if I may give you some more Vienna tips.

All the best,
