35 years Danube Island Festival

From 22nd June to 24th June, the Danube Island Festival, Europe's largest open-air festival, will take place, this year for the 35th time.

How it all began…

It all started in 1983 as a small family event with the idea to establish a summer festival here. But already in the first year the number of visitors clearly exceeded all and so the Danube Island Festival was born. An annual fixed date at the beginning of the summer. From the very beginning, the organizers have paid close attention to promoting red-white-red music culture.

And also this year around three million visitors are expected for more than 600 hours of music, action, sports and fun program as well as 200 national and international acts.

The whole event still with free admission.

So what is it that you can look forward to on the three days? Again there are numerous stages with different themes waiting for you.

A little bit I will reveal, the rest you have to explore by yourself. On the Radio FM4 / Planet.tt stage international artists such as the American Indie Rock Band Portugal or the German Antelope Gang appear.

On the Wien Energie / Radio Wien Festbühne unforgettable Austro hits from STS veteran Gert Steinbäcker & Band like "Grandfather" or „Und irgendwann bleib i dann dort“ as well as new hits from his solo album "Ja eh" guarantee a great atmosphere. And with Konstantin Wecker, the very well-known German musician another highlight is waiting for you with classics and new German songs.

For all Austro music fans, Elisabeth Engstler and Andreas Steppan will perform Rainhard Fendrich's biggest hits as part of the "Best of I Am From Austria" special. The Austrian cabaret artist Lukas Resetarits will provide for an exuberant mood with his new program "70s - let live". And that's just a tiny glimpse into the program.

The whole program you can find on the website of the Danube Island Festival

But also new partners will be present at the 35th Danube Island Festival. For the first time, OBI, Kärcher and Coca-Cola celebrate their island premiere with sensational attractions.

From OBI (you know, the DIY and home improvement retailer) you get the "OBI Mach-Bar Insel", a place where creativity knows no bounds and small and large visitors are surprised with cool drinks and great gadgets. The "OBI Flower Tower" with cozy OBI self-made furniture and the "OBI Bohrmaschinen-Rrrrodeo" at the "Wien Energie / Radio Wien Festinsel" are all about Do-It-Yourself.

Kärcher (corrcect, the world market leader in cleaning technology) has come up with a special action highlight. The daredevils can try different stunts from a 3.5 meter high tower on Karaoke Island at the "Kärcher Bagjump", like Tom Cruise in the blockbuster "Mission Impossible", and take an instant shot of their heroic pose.

In the Coca-Cola (does not need explanation) Fanzone, you can watch three group matches of the 2018 soccer World Cup on a large LED wall in the cozy chill zone with a diverse range of food every day. If you are lucky, you win seats for the fan zone's VIP area.

Of course, as every year, a colorful program for children is there too. There is for example the "Eskimo / okidoki Kinderfreunde Insel", where besides a colorful activity program for small and big kids, also a refreshing cooling and a hearty taste experience is ensured.

Quite creative it gets at the "Stadtimpuls Pop-up Kreativmarkt", where 20 young designers present their innovative and original products - colorful, committed and sustainable.

In short, the Danube Island Festival 2018 will be a festival with a top-class music, action and fun program on eleven stages and 18 themed islands. And this year too, it will be a cultural calling card for the vibrant, cosmopolitan and future-oriented city of Vienna.
