Memoria - loving, personal and slightly different
"You never guess what I'm opening here." Those were pretty much the first words I remember that Marijan said to me. That was just before he opened up - our undertaker.
Christian and I had been following the renovation works for months, always wondering what would open up here. Marijan was right, we would never have the idea that it will be an undertaker. All this is now two years ago, and in the meantime it became from the curious wait who re-opened here around the corner to a friendship. And it became quite normal to sometimes stop by in the shop, for a chat or a coffee. Because one thing is very clear at MEMORIA. This Undertaker is different, lovingly different and the death here may also be bright and friendly.
But how did Marijan and Kristina, his wife, manage to start a family run undertaker business as young entrepreneurs? Oh yes, by the way, the two didi not met each other at a funeral company (but a few years before), but worked together there for a couple of years.
So, let Marijan tell you a little bit about himself how he came to be Vienna's youngest undertaker and what makes MEMORIA so different and so loving.
Marijan about MEMORIA and how it all began
I am the undertaker! For me it's not a profession - it's a vocation. My special offer: Kristina and I together manage our company and our personal commitment around the clock, unconventional ideas such as our organic fair trade coffins and urns as well as fair prices make MEMORIA so unique in Vienna.
How it all started? Well, a trial day was enough and I realized that my talents are being sought and demanded here in this business area. After several years working at an undertaker compan, the idea of starting my own undertaker company crystallized more and more, and in 2017 we founded MEMORIA.
For me, our job is an incredibly valuable task. Even though a person's heart has stopped beating, for us he is still a human being whom we accompany with great love on his last journey.
Yes, we often spend hours talking with relatives about the life of this person in order to do justice to his personality. And if we put a smile on our customers' faces, especially in the moment of their greatest sadness, that is certainly also due to our children Noel and Theo (and soon our third child will be joining us too), who are often carefree in these conversations.
As our customer, you can be sure that in our office MEMORIA laughs are heard more often than crying. Nevertheless, the memory remains appreciated and respected.
My personal experience ...
I can confirm that completely. Recently my mom passed away. And Kristina and Marijan have wonderfully accompanied us through this very intense time. We could laugh and it was also a lot of room to let tears flow. And we also lost a lot of bureaucracy as they tok care of it, so we could focus on the essentials. Professional and with a lot of heart.
Mum and I had talked a lot about her funeral and MEMORIA made her farewell dignified, solemn and 100% Mama's taste. Marijan and his team have made this day for us, friends and family, a day that we will always remember with a smile despite the sad event.
Since Christian and I know Marijan and Kristina, we have learned a lot. Above all, that even a mortician may be happy and funny, that an office can be bright and colorful, and that the dignity of the human remains to the end and beyond.
Yes, this post is a little different today, more personal and perhaps more unconventional. But that's just it, let's celebrate and enjoy life and celebrate death. With Kristina, Marijan and the whole team of MEMORIA you will be looked after lovingly, personally and a little bit differently.
