Summertime and water somehow belong together. Vienna is (unfortunately) still not by the sea, but that’s no reason to miss out on exciting water-related activities. <\/p>\n

How about boating?<\/h2>\n

So today’s focus is on boating, yes exactly, because there is a really fine offer in Vienna where you can combine several things at once. But first things first. <\/p>\n

As you know, Vienna is located on the Danube and a “branch” of it is the Danube Canal, which flows through the city center. This means there are plenty of opportunities to explore the city by boat. There’s definitely something for you with all the options on offer, provided you don’t get seasick, of course. Otherwise you’ll be like Christian and me when we went on a harbor tour with friends in Barcelona, especially the longer one, because we both wanted to see as much as possible. Unfortunately, our friends weren’t feeling well and were very happy when they were back on solid ground. <\/p>\n

Fancy sightseeing and more?<\/h2>\n

But back to Vienna, because that’s what you want to explore. So what is there to choose from? <\/p>\n

A classic is the offer of the DDSG (thus and now the long form: Donaudampfschifffahrtsgesellschaft). It offers various sightseeing and themed cruises from April to October. Sightseeing by boat, themed cruises, culinary delights and ships, and much more await you. You can find the full offer on the DDSG website<\/g>, just let yourself be inspired. For a musical and culinary evening, book the Heurigen cruise with Viennese songs<\/g> and enjoy tasty Heurigen food and melodious Viennese songs. <\/p>\n

Would you like to go on an excursion?<\/h2>\n

Then you can take advantage of 2 exciting offers from the landing stage on the Danube Canal:<\/p>\n

With the Twin City Liner<\/a>, a high-speed catamaran, you can be in Bratislava in a short time to explore another exciting city.<\/p>\n

Or would you prefer to visit a national park? Yes, that’s right, there is the Donauauen National Park on the outskirts of Vienna. From the Danube Canal, you can take a boat directly into the national park where you can not only visit the “jungle” from the boat, but also take part in hikes, guided excursions and much more. You can find all the information you need on the National Park Boat website<\/g>. <\/p>\n

Would you rather be completely individual?<\/h2>\n

Would you prefer to explore everything around the Danube Canal on your own? Then join the 1st Vienna boat cab<\/g>, which is available daily from 2pm. Whether you take part in one of the themed trips or prefer to put together your own personal trip is up to you. <\/p>\n

If you want to be a bit more sporty (i.e. travel without a motor), you can simply hire a rowing boat on the Old Danube and off you go. There are also some special offers such as full moon trips, boat picnics and much more. You can find more information on the Alte Donau website<\/g>. <\/p>\n

And while we’re on the subject of water sports, Vienna can also keep up very well with the beach and the sea. More about that soon… <\/p>\n
