The flight has landed, the luggage is here—now what? We get asked this question more often than you might think. That’s because Vienna International Airport is located outside the city, in Lower Austria, and it’s quite a distance to Hernals. Don’t worry, it’s easily manageable—here are the options, compared honestly.
By train—fast and easy
There are several train options for the route between the airport and downtown. The City Airport Train (CAT) runs nonstop and takes just 16 minutes to reach Wien Mitte station. The S7 S-Bahn takes a little longer—about 23 to 25 minutes—but stops at several stations along the way and is significantly cheaper.
An important note before we begin: Vienna’s rail network will undergo renovations in several areas in 2026, and starting September 7, 2026, the CAT will also operate as a replacement bus service between Wien Mitte and the airport for an extended period. This won’t significantly change the basic route, but travel times and other details may vary. It’s therefore worth checking the WienMobil or ÖBB app right before your trip.
And then on to us?
From Wien Mitte or the Central Station, you’re not quite there yet—you’ll need to take public transportation or a taxi for the rest of the way to Hernals. Since construction in the city often causes changes to public transit routes, we’d prefer to let you know exactly which route is the fastest right before your arrival or when you make your reservation.
Conveniently by taxi or via an app
If you have a lot of luggage, are arriving late, or simply don’t want to go through the hassle of transferring with suitcases: A taxi or a ride-hailing service like Uber, Bolt, or FREE NOW will take you right to our doorstep. Expect to pay about 35 to 55 euros, depending on the provider, time of day, and demand. A transfer booked in advance also takes the guesswork out of the price. We’d be happy to arrange the transfer for you.
Our Tip
If you’re traveling light and want to save money, combining the train with a bit of public transportation is a good choice. If you’re traveling with your family, have a lot of luggage, or have just had a long flight, a taxi is often the more relaxing option—sometimes the price difference is simply worth the peace of mind.
Feel free to contact us before your arrival if you’re unsure—we’ll let you know exactly what works best right now. Have a safe trip to Hernals …
