A long conversation with Michael Bauer-Leeb from Weitsicht – Büro für zukunftsfähige Wirtschaft about sustainability inspired me to put together a nice overview of where you can buy regional, organic and sustainable food in your area. Because there are several possibilities where you will find what you are looking for.

The little specialists

Two smaller stores are well spread out across Hernals, so no matter where you are, you’ll be well supplied with fine things.

Further out you will find the Dornbacher Grätzl-Greißler, lovingly run by Elli and Michael. Here you will find everything you need for everyday shopping in great quality

Address: Dornbacherstraße 101

If you walk further into town from us, you will pass the Helene farm store. Which, as the name suggests, focuses on a rural offering. From fruit, vegetables and wine to bread and pastries. The products are simply tasty, regional and sustainable.

The market

At the Alszeilenmarkt you can buy fruit, vegetables, bread and much more from the region every Saturday from 8 am to 4 pm. Whether it’s vegetables from an organic farm, meat from a direct marketer in Styria, delicious potatoes from Lower Austria or the 17er beer straight from Hernals. The selection is really impressive.

The supermarkets

You can now find a good range of organic and regional food in all supermarkets. Take a look and find the seals such as Bio Austria and Fairtrade and you will have found the right food.

Denn’s Biomarkt has a special position. Because at Denn’s, as the name suggests, all products are organic. So you don’t need to worry about whether it’s organic or not. The nearest Denn’s is also very close by.

As you can see, it’s very easy to shop consciously and sustainably in our area. And if you have any further questions, please feel free to contact Christian and me (Stephanie) at any time.
